Ashley and Pia's story

Hey!!

My little girl Pia is now 4 months old. She has a Hemangioma on her face and around her eye.

It wasn’t visible at birth except for the slightest bruise like mark, but within a couple of weeks it started to darken and slowly started to appear.

I’m ashamed to admit I was absolutely devastated and found it so difficult at first especially because she’s my first baby and I struggled with low mood for a few weeks after giving birth.

I struggled to get a diagnosis at first. The doctor first told me it was a port wine stain and then potentially a salmon patch. I pushed and pushed for a referral as I had a gut feeling that they were wrong.

Thankfully we finally got a diagnosis and put on timolol. I was so relieved and finally felt some hope that my beautiful baby wouldn’t have to suffer with comments and stares when she’s older.

Now she’s been on timolol for about 3 months and there has been some good progress. I also now get days when I don’t notice it as much so I must be getting used to it although some days it still gets me down but I’m coming to terms with it being part of her for now and I love her so much.

The advice I give to other hemangioma mommas would be to enjoy your baby now whilst they're little. I kept wishing she was older so her strawberry would be gone. But once I learned to accept it I could appreciate her for the perfect and amazing baby she is.

Anyway this is my story. Feel free to follow me and get in touch if you want to chat about your babies strawberries.
