Lucy and Olivia's story

Olivia was born with a tiny red mark on her forehead and at the time the hospital said it what was where they had caught her head when trying to break my waters.

We noticed that it was turning a darker red and so took her to our GP. They didn’t know what it could be and it took three GP’s in the room and they then decided it was a hemangioma and referred us to a specialist.

The specialist unfortunately didn’t offer much information and sent us for a scan to make sure her birthmark wasn’t feeding off the brain which thankfully it wasn’t and we were then told to leave it and it would go on it’s own by the time Olivia was 5.

We only found out about treatment after joining the wonderful Birthmark support group.

We then enquired about treatment but they advised because of her age (Olivia is now 2) that treatment wouldn’t work and that surgery would leave her with a bigger scar than if we left it and she may just need some laser treatment if she is left with some sagging skin.

We love her Birthmark as it is part of her and don’t even see it anymore.

I did really struggle at first with the stares and comments but I am building Olivia with confidence and all we see is the kind Beautiful funny girl she is xx
